Dorcas: Women in Mission
“There was a disciple named… Dorcas, who was always doing good and helping the poor.” – Acts 9:36
Dorcas Society is the women’s organization in Peace Lutheran Church dedicated to outreach with the message of the Gospel, both locally and throughout the world. We are a part of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and support the mission grants adopted by that national organization.
Dorcas Members…
- Serve families of Peace by preparing and serving meals at funerals in our church.
(Download lunch menu option here). - Provide financial support to students receiving a Christian education, from preschool through seminary.
- Sew quilts and layette kits to be distributed worldwide.
- Assist with disaster response, clothing and supplies for the impoverished and many other special outreach projects.
Every woman of Peace Lutheran is welcome as a Dorcas member. A bulletin board in the rampway displays information about LWML/Dorcas and activities and events. Contact the church office for more information.
Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child
Peace Lutheran Church participates in Operation Christmas Child. This program collects shoeboxes filled with gifts and delivers them to children in need around the world. Every one of these shoebox gifts is an opportunity for the Gospel. In the hands of local churches, it is a powerful tool for evangelism, discipleship, and multiplication.You can be a part of this worldwide effort to grow the Kingdom of God even in places where the Gospel has never been heard by donating toys such as a doll, soccer ball and pump, a stuffed animal, fun toys, hygiene items (no gels or liquids), school supplies or donations of $10.00 to send a box. Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive these gifts.
We collect items throughout the year and pack the shoeboxes the first Sunday in November.
